PROMPTed #20 Precipice and Valleys

PROMPTed is a weekly collection of writing prompts to inspire your writing week. The prompts are loosely grouped under a common theme and include a random line prompt, a photograph, a song/music video, a sensory suggestion and a famous quote.

Our guest programmer for the month of June is Adam Byatt.

My musical tastes are widely varied but I’m tapping into my musical youth. It was the lyric from the song I have used as the quote that has always stuck with me. I wanted to explore different ideas about living on the edge, to counteract the dictum of “If you’re not living on the edge you’re taking up too much space.” The edge is where we define it to be, not always in the adrenaline-pumped experience.

Random Line Prompt

The bowl of cornflakes sat on the table, dry as the Sahara. Without a second thought, she turned to the fridge and grasped the strawberry milk to turn the desert into an oasis.

If you can judge a wise man by the colour of his skin, mister you’re a better man than I – StevenTyler

Interested in being a guest programmer?

Submit your prompts (along with the relevant links for multimedia) in a word document, along with a 50 word bio and a little on what inspired the prompts to Write Anything via Submittable.

Adam is an English teacher and occasional drummer sifting through the ennui, minutiae and detritus of life and cataloguing them as potential story ideas.  They are pretty much a pad of sticky notes on the fridge door.

Occasionally he finds loose change.

He exists on twitter as @revhappiness and writes flash fiction at http://afullnessinbrevity.wordpress.com
